A summer student, working in the office of Calgary Centre Conservative MP Greg McLean, has been fired following allegations someone stole campaign data from party leadership contender Erin O’Toole.
McLean, one of dozens of MPs who’ve endorsed the representative for the riding of Durham, made the announcement in a statement.
”Upon learning of a breach of trust involving a summer student in my office, I immediately took action and the individual was terminated,” said McLean.
”This matter is entirely regrettable.”
O’Toole’s campaign has accused rival Peter Mackay’s campaign of hacking into confidential campaign information.
MacKay’s camp’s denied the accusations.
O’Toole’s team has referred the matter to three separate police services; the Mounties have confirmed they’re reviewing it.
