Nominations for Order of Canada, usually announced by the Governor General on Canada Day, will likely have to wait until much later this fall, due to COVID-19.
The office of Governor General Julie Payette notes that this spring’s advisory council meeting was scrubbed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The next gathering is not scheduled until November and the council only meets twice a year.
In the absence of the traditional announcement on Canada Day, the Governor General plans to shine a spotlight on lesser-known Canadian honours; decorations for bravery and meritorious service and the Sovereign Medal for volunteers.
