Transit riders in Toronto are wondering whether it will soon be mandatory to wear a mask on the TTC.

Mississauga’s mayor Bonnie Crombie has joined Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown in making face coverings mandatory on her city’s transit as of July 2nd.

“Face coverings such as scarves will be permitted, and this will allow us to recover the much needed revenue and safely increase the capacity on our buses, from 30 to 50 percent,” Crombie explained.

So is the TTC next?

“Active conversation happening on that file, for sure,” said Toronto Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa, “That is something that is very much a hot topic of conversation.”

Toronto’s mayor John Tory will likely have more to say about this, when he joins Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with Libby Znaimer, after Thursday’s noon news.

Toronto Public Health reported 121 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the total in the city to 13,000. Of those cases, 955 people have died, while more than 10,300 have recovered.

Dr. de Villa says over the past few weeks, most of new COVID-19 cases were reported among people in their fifties. She says that may be related to a number of factors, including close contact with people in work environments.
