While the wearing of face coverings is expected to become mandatory on the TTC next month, there are no plans to issue fines or refuse anyone entry to anyone who does not wear one.

The new policy, that’ll go into effect July 2 assuming it’s approved by the TTC board at a meeting next week, would see all riders under the age of two or anyone with a medical condition exempted.
TTC CEO Rick Leary says about 50 to 60% of commuters already wear face coverings and is confident the rest will follow suit.
As a result, there are no plans at this poing to stop someone without a mask from using the system or issue a $195 fine.
”Based on experiences of other jurisdictions where compliance has been high, like New York City, we don’t believe strict enforcement is neccessary,” added Leary.
Instead there’ll be an ”extensive awareness campaign” in which 1-million non-surgical masks will be handed out as over 100 ”COVID ambassadors” will visit busy subway stations to remind riders about the importance of wearing a face covering.
