The city of St. Catharines has named a local pavilion after late Rush drummer Neil Peart.
The acclaimed percussionist, primary lyricist for the group, co-wrote Rush’s 1975 song ”Lakeside Park”.

The $1.8-million pavilion, constructed in 2017, replacing an older structure, will now be known as ”Neal Peart Pavilion at Lakeside Park.”
Born in Hamilton, Peart grew up in St. Catharines and worked at the former midway in Port Dalhousie’s Lakeside Park in the summers.
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Rush members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson in 2013, and a member of the Order of Canada, Peart died of brain cancer in January at the age of 67.
