Opera lovers are mourning the passing of Rosalind Elias, the mezzo-soprano who sang at New York’s Metropolitan Opera for more than 50 years.
Elias stepped onto the Met’s stage for the first time at age 23 and performed almost 700 times in 54 different roles.
She also made her Broadway debut at age 81 in a 2011 revival of Stephen Sondheim’s “Follies.”
Elias died Sunday at a hospital in Manhattan of congestive heart failure.
Rosaline Elias was was 90 years old.
