A plane carrying Canadians who were on a cruise ship with a cluster of new coronavirus cases arrived at CFB Trenton from Oakland, California Tuesday morning.

The passengers will spend two weeks in quarantine.

The exact number of Canadians on the flight is unknown, but there were 237 Canadians among the 3500 passengers and crew on board the Grand Princess cruise ship.

Ontario public health experts are ramping up screening and monitoring at long-term care homes as the number of cases of novel coronavirus continues to rise.

Canada’s first COVID-19 death was announced yesterday. The patient was a man in his 80s with underlying health conditions at a North Vancouver long term care home.

An additional case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in the GTA, bringing the provincial total to 35 patients.

The latest case, identified Monday night, is a woman in her 30s. Health experts say she is a close contact of a previously confirmed case. The woman presented herself to Brampton Civic Hospital and remains in self-isolation.

The two other patients added to the Ontario tally Monday are a man in his 80s and a woman in her 70s, who both recently travelled to Iran.
