The job action between Ontario’s teachers’ unions and the provincial government reaches a new level today as teachers from all four unions will be off the job today in a massive one-day strike.

About two-million students will be out of class as talks continue to stall between the government and teachers.

Tens of thousands of teachers will darken the doorstep at Queen’s Park today as they take their protest right to the heart of the province’s government.

“The Minister of Education (Stephen Lecce) points the finger of blame at everybody but himself,” said Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation president Harvey Bischof. “What’s clear at this historic event is that the common denominator of all the chaos in the Ontario public education system is the destructive Ford education agenda.”

Teachers say their big issues are things like class size, proper supports for teachers and students and getting rid of mandatory e-learning for some courses.

Lecce counters by saying the teachers are only wanting a 2% raise, something the province can’t afford.

Representatives for the French and Catholic teachers’ unions recently met with the province with little progress made.
