Hundreds of Canadians who fled the new coronavirus hot zone in China will experience freedom for the first time in two weeks as their quarantine at CFB Trenton comes to an end.
But as they get to plan trips home, a new wave of patients arrived this morning.
The plane carrying former passengers of the cruise ship that had been quarantined off Japan safely landed this morning. After being processed in Trenton they’ll be brought to a facility near Cornwall where they’ll face another quarantine that could last up to two weeks.
Federal Heath Minister Patty Hajdu has confirmed they could be released sooner if they don’t show any signs of the COVID-19 virus.
The more than 200 Canadians and their family members who are free today were initially flown out of Hunan China, the epicentre of the COVID-19 outbreak. They had spent the last two weeks in Trenton with none of them showing any signs.
The new arrivals were tested prior to taking off from Tokyo’s Haneda airport.
