He remains hopeful a strike or lockout Thursday February 27 can be avoided, but City Manager Chris Murray also says it’s important to plan for the worst.
As a result, the city’s released a contingency plan for a potential work stoppage involving the city’s 5,000 outside employees.
Among services impacted; residential garbage collection east of Yonge Street would be suspended, while west of Yonge it would continue (as it’s carried out by private contractors).
All community and recreation centres, greenhouses and conservatories, pools, arenas, outdoor ice rinks, fitness centres and ski hills would be closed.
All event permits for city parks, community centres, pools, indoor arenas, outdoor sports fields would be cancelled.
In the meantime, talks are continuing, as they are with the union representing the city’s more than 24,000 inside workers.
