After the news yesterday of the death of the founder of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the group announced its cutting short its U-S tour.
Joseph Shabalala died in hospital in Pretoria, South Africa yesterday at the age of 78.
He co-wrote the songs “Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes” and “Homeless” with Paul Simon for his 1986 “Graceland” Album.
That album launched the group and Zulu music to international attention.
Shabalala retired in 2014 but would occasionally perform with the group he founded in 1964.
The now cancelled tour had no Canadian dates scheduled but they were slated to perform in Buffalo on March 14th.
