Alberta Premier Jason Kenney believes former federal cabinet colleague John Baird is ”seriously considering” running to replace Andrew Scheer as federal Tory leader.

Kenney, who served with Baird in Stephen Harper’s cabinet, says he’s spoken to Baird about the race.
”I think he’d be a very compelling candidate,” said Kenney.
”John is very experienced, he’s a principled Conservative, he’s bilingual.”
Baird, who retired from politics in 2015 and held a number of jobs in the private sector, was reportedly working on Pierre Poilievre’s campaign team until the MP said he would not be running.
The Conservatives will select Scheer’s successor at a convention in Toronto June 27.
