Despite the global headlines around the novel coronavirus, the president of the Ontario Medical Association is reminding us that the Flu is far more serious of an issue for Canadians than this new virus.

Doctor Sohail Gandhi was a guest on Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with Libby Znaimer on Thursday and put the situation into perspective.

“According to the Health Canada website, there have been about 18,000 confirmed cases of the Flu so far this flu season,” Dr. Gandhi explained, “And we have about four to six weeks to go, and to the extent that this might convince people to wash their hands before they eat, cover their mouths when they cough, take extra precautions with disinfectants. Do all the things basically that your grandmother told you to do to protect you from getting sick.”

And Dr. Gandhi says it’s not to late to get a flu shot, if you haven’t already.

Some 3500 Canadians die of the flu every year.
