The First World War epic ”1917” won the Golden Globe for best drama picture to kick off award season in Hollywood.
It beat ”The Irishman,” ”Marriage Story,” ”Joker” and ”The Two Popes.”
Sam Mendes won for best director for ”1917,” edged out Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino.
Ellen DeGeneres accepted the Carol Burnett Award for Excellence in Television.
Tom Hanks received the Cecil B. Demille Award honouring ”outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.”
”Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood” won for best picture, musical or comedy over ”Dolemite Is My Name,” ”Jojo Rabbit,” ”Knives Out” and ”Rocketman.”
