The debate over Daylight Saving Time is heating up in Manitoba.

The opposition New Democrats are launching a web site to gauge public opinion on whether the province should stop changing clocks every spring and fall.

NDP legislative member Adrien Sala says there is plenty of scientific evidence showing time changes can negatively affect sleep and overall health.

As an example, Sala points out that the number of heart attacks increases after time changes.

Legislation has been introduced in British Columbia to adopt permanent daylight time, although they’re waiting to see whether California, Oregon and Washington will also make the move.

Public consultations have been launched in Alberta on the idea of getting rid of time changes as well.
