It sounds like a page out of Moses Znaimer’s Zoomer Philosphy.

Finding a sense of purpose in life may come with health benefits.

University of California researchers surveyed 1000 people who were asked to rate their mental and physical health, memory skills, and perceived presence of meaning and purpose in their lives.

Overall, people who scored high on the “presence of meaning or purpose” survey were more likely to also report better mental and physical health.

In patients over the age of 60, the association between sense of purpose and overall health was also stronger.

Some older adults in this group also scored slightly higher on memory tests.

You can read about the findings in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry.
