The province has announced the creation of the first of its new regional health teams as part the Ford government’s plan to end hallway health care.

”What is going to be different is that the care is going to be more connected,” Health Minister Christine Elliott told Zoomer Radio’s ”Fight Back” with Libby Znaimer.

Elliott went on to explain how these teams will differ from Local Health Integration Networks or LHINs, that are being eliminated as part of the government’s health care reforms.

”Say for example a patient is being discharged from hospital but still needs home care.  In the past, under the old system, by the time they left hospital they often didn’t know who the home care provider would be, what services they’d be providing or when they would show up at their door.  But under the new system they will have all of that information before they even leave the hospital,” added Elliott.

Starting next year, Mississauga will be the first of 24 such regional health teams that’ll offer services bringing health care providers together to work as one.
