Ontario’s Premier visits Ottawa Friday for a meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

It’s Doug Ford’s first face to with Trudeau since the prime minister won re-election last month, largely because of the support he received here in Ontario.

“We’ll sit down and focus on a few items, we’re going to focus on the infrastructure, we’re going to focus on health, job creation and make sure he fulfills his commitments that he made in Ontario,” said Doug Ford, who also told reporters at Queen’s Park Thursday that he holds no ill will toward the prime minister.

During the election campaign, Trudeau frequently warned voters against Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer by trying to tie him to Ford, who’s popularity has been shrinking in the polls.

Ford is promising to bring a collaborative message to the meeting. He’s also continuing with a message of national unity, a different tack than his Alberta counterpart Jason Kenney.

Liberal strategist Charles Bird told guest host Jane Brown on Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back, this is smart because it leaves Ford open to run for the federal Conservative leadership next spring if Conservatives turf their current leader.

“Clearly if either of them were to decide to run, Jason Kenney and Doug Ford would be absolute front runners. You could probably throw Rona Ambrose and Peter MacKay into that mix. But it’s becoming increasingly clear that Andrew Scheer is going to have a very difficult time holding onto his job.”

As for Justin Trudeau, he’s already met with other provincial leaders including Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe and Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister.
