The duo of Maiko Yamamoto and James Long, the artistic dirctors of Vancouver’s Replacement Theatre, are the first co-winners of Canada’s $100,000 Siminovich Prize.

It was presented at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa last night.

The theatre award rotates on a three-year cycle, recognizing professionals in the alternating fields of design, direction and playwriting.

Yamamotoa and Long have worked together for more than 20-years and say the collaboration has animated their creative process, producing experimental performances no single mind could conjure.

The winners gets $75,000 and can choose a protege to receive $25,000. They’ve selected Vancouver director and creator Conor Wylie as their protege.
