A canvas by Pablo Picasso will be offered for auction Wednesday evening in Toronto alongside pieces by some of Canada’s most treasured artists.
Picasso’s Femme au Chapeau will lead the fall sale for the Heffel Fine Art Auction House with a pre-auction estimate between $8-million and $10-million.
The 1941 oil-on-canvas depicts photographer Dora Maar, who during her relationship with Picasso served as the principal subject of his Weeping Woman series.
Canadian highlights include a 1912 work by Emily Carr depicting a First Nations village in B.C. titled Street, Alert Bay which could fetch between $2-million and $3-million.
Actor, musician and art lover Steve Martin is also selling one of the Lawren Harris paintings in his collection.
