City of Toronto might soon fund new after school programs … keep libraries open until midnight and offer TTC discounts to more low-income residents as part of the city’s latest bid to fight poverty.

 

The plan, which sets out the city’s strategy until 2022, goes before the executive committee later today.

If approved, it would go to city council November 26th.

Toronto’s 20-year poverty reduction strategy was first approved in 2015, and is scheduled to be updated every four years until 20-35.

According to Canadian census data, one-in-four children and one-in-five adults live in poverty in Toronto.

One anti-poverty advocate says the city’s moving in the right direction but that much needs to be done to convince residents positive changes are coming.
