The trade dispute with China over Canadian beef and pork exports is ending.

”Good news for Canadian farmers today,” the prime minister said on Twitter.

”Thanks to Ambassador [Dominic] Barton and the Canadian meat industry for their work in re-opening this important market for our meat producers and their families.”

One of Canada’s biggest export market for beef and pork, China stopped accepting shipments in June after Chinese customs reported discovering residue of a banned additive in some pork products.  

The ban is estimated to have cost Canadian farmers nearly $100-million.

Tensions between the countries were escalating following the arrest of tech executive Meng Wanzhou last December on a U.S. warrant.

China continues to block imports of Canadian canola.
