Countries like Canada, and cities such as Toronto have already declared climate emergencies.

Now 11,000 scientists from 153 countries, including more than 400 from Canada, are doing the same.
In a declaration published in the journal BioScience,  the researchers put forth six ”critical and interrelated steps,” energy, short-lived pollutants, nature, food, economy and population, that governments and policy-makers should take into account in order to reduce effects of climate change.
”Our goal is to make it extremely brief and easy to understand, so we get a wide readership of the paper,” said William Ripple, ecology professor at Oregon State University, who hopes the suggestions will be taken seriously.
”In general, countries do not appear to be meeting their stated goals and milestones for reducing carbon dioxide emissions, so I’m quite concerned with the lack of progress.”
