Just before the first federal trial in the opiod crisis was to begin in Cleveland Monday, four drug companies reached a $260-million settlement.
It covers McKesson Corp., AmericsourceBergen Corp., Cardinal Health Inc., and Teva Pharmaceutical, ending lawsuits by two Ohio counties.
Thousands more plaintiffs cases are awaiting trial.
Attorneys general from North Carolina, Tennessee, Pennsylvania and Texas say it’s critical settlement funds are distributed fairly across counties, cities and states.
Talks aimed at reaching a broader $48-billion settlement collapsed Friday.
Purdue Pharma, maker of OxyContin, is trying to settle lawsuits through bankruptcy court.
