Despite being in the heart of Canada’s oil and gas country, Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg still drew an audience numbering in the thousands in front of the Alberta legislature in Edmonton.
The teen has been making international headlines for criticizing world leaders she accuses of letting down youth by doing too little to tackle climate change.
“We teenagers are not scientists nor are we politicians,” said Thunberg. “But it seems many of us understand the science because we have done our homework.”
A small number of people held a counter-rally but they were far outnumbered by climate advocates.
Alberta Premier Jason Kenney didn’t attend the rally today. He attended the opening of a natural gas pipeline.
