The owners of the downtown restaurant they closed after receiving hate messages and death threats say they’re re-opening tomorrow with the help of a Middle Eastern restaurant chain.
Husam Alsoufi says the outpouring of public support after the closure persuaded the family to reconsider.
Alsoufi was joined inside ‘Soufi’s’ on Queen Street West near Bathurst by Paramount Fine Foods CEO Mohamad Fakih, who announced while he would help with the re-opening, Alsoufi would remain owner and keep the profits.
”We’re going to send a message that hate will never win in Canada,” adds Fakih.
The hate messages and death threats, which are being investigated by police, began after the family’s eldest son recently protested against a political event in Hamilton, but regrets not stepping aside or intervening when an elderly woman with a walker was blocked from entering the venue and was verbally harassed.
