Research is showing eating healthily could be key in helping treat young adults with depression.

Implementing a healthy diet with decreased processed foods decreased symptoms of depression for young adults.

The study from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia studied depressed young adults.

Researchers instructed half of them to eat more vegetables, protein, and fruits via an instructional video and phone check-ins.

The other half continued on their regular diet.

At the end of three weeks, the people that had changed their diet, experienced an improvement in their depression.

Those that continued on their usual diet did not experience any change.

A decrease in processed foods contributed the most to the improvement in depression.
