Andrew Scheer has never directly answered the question until now.
”My personal position has always been open and consistent.  I am personally pro-life but I’ve also made the commitment that as leader of this party, it is my responsibility to ensure that we do not reopen this debate, that we focus on issues that unite our party and unite Canadians.  And that’s exactly what I’ll do and that’s why I will vote against measures that attempt to reopen this debate,” Scheer said during a campaign stop in New Brunswick.
The declaration comes the day after three party leaders pressured Scheer in the French debate to state publicly how he feels about abortion.
He avoided the question saying that the abortion debate is settled.
Long identified as a social conservative, Scheer spoke out against same-sex marriage in a speech in the Commons in 2005.
He recently said the debate is settled.
When running for the party leadership two years ago, Scheer told the anti-abortion group RightNow, he would allow ”freedom of conscience” for backbench MPs.
In that same interview, Scheer also said he has always voted in favour of ”pro-life” legislation.
Scheer has said during this election campaign that he would allow Conservative MPs to introduce legislation they want, while affirming that as leader, he would vote against legislation that seeks to limit abortion access.
