Changes to the city of Toronto’s noise bylaw take effect today.
(Zoomer Radio’s ”Fight Back”)
”We listened to Toronto residents’ concerns about noise in the city,” says Mayor John Tory, ”and have taken action.”
Amendments, approved by City Council back in April, include a new ‘dedicated noise team,’ made up of two dozen bylaw enforcement officers available between 6a.m. and 2a.m. seven-days-a-week to respond to complaints.
They will be armed with special monitoring devices developed by sound engineering experts.

Vehicle noise cannot exceed 92 db(A) from the exhaust outlet as measured at 50 cms.
Unnecessary horns, engine revving and tire squealing are also not permitted.
The updated noise bylaw also does not allow amplified sound such as from bars and concerts, persistent noise from any animal, including dog barking, construction related noise between 7p.m. and 7a.m. on weekdays or at all on Sundays or statutory holidays, or any noise deemed unreasonable and persistent.
