Improving health care delivery for Canada’s aging population could become an election issue this fall.
A new Angus Reid survey finds more than 2-million Canadians, aged 55 and older, face significant barriers when accessing the health care system in their province.
These include being unable to find a family doctor or experiencing lengthy wait times for surgery, diagnostic tests or specialist visits.
But the research also concludes that most Canadians 55-plus have either easy or acceptable access to primary care, while one-in-four say it’s difficult to get an appointment with their doctors in a timely manner.
