Changes to security screening at Queens Park are coming down the line.

The Ontario legislature is introducing airport-style security next year, which will require visitors to pass through metal detectors and have their bag pass through an x-ray machine.

The changes are slated to come into effect around this time next year and work is underway to build a visitor screening centre, which will become the only point of entry into the building for visitors.

Queen’s Park is somewhat behind on it’s security screening as most other provincial legislatures already require visitors to pass through a metal detector to enter the building.

As it stands, visitors can enter the legislature through a number of doors, with the presentation of government issued ID, however, visitors are required to go through a metal detector to access public galleries of the chamber.
