The opposition at Queen’s Park are calling for an independent review of governmental appointments.
They are also calling on Premier Doug Ford to speak out publicly about the appointments scandal that has rocked his government in the past week.
Ford’s Chief of Staff resigned on Friday following news that appointees to two foreign posts were personally connected to him and yesterday an appointee to Ontario’s accountants council resigned after it was revealed that she is French’s niece through marriage.
Speaking at Queen’s Park on Wednesday, NDP MPP Marit Styles accused Doug Ford of not living up to the standards he set for himself during the election campaign when he promised to ”stop the gravy train” adding that ”we simply cannot trust Ford to lead a review of the appointments he signed off on.”
Styles called for a legislative committee to conduct the review, while Interim Liberal leader John Fraser wants the integrity commissioner to look into all public appointments under the Tory government.
A government spokeswoman says the premier has directed his staff to review all pending appointments
