Ontario’s special adviser on health care is recommending giving patients real-time emergency department wait times, increasing access to virtual visits, and investing more in community mental health services.

Dr. Rueben Devlin and the premier’s council on improving health care delivered its second report today.

Themes of its recommendations include better integrating the system, innovation and efficiency.

The report says there are “many opportunities to improve the design and delivery of services in the province to ensure that the system is providing the right care, at the right time and in the right setting.”

Health Minister Christine Elliott says in a statement that the report’s recommendations align with the work her ministry is doing.

She says it is updating policies to introduce a greater variety of virtual care options and online access to health records.
