They call her Hurricane for good reason!

A 103-year-old retired teacher from Louisiana is the oldest woman to compete on an American track after finishing the 50 and 100-metre dashes at the National Senior Games in New Mexico.

Julia “Hurricane” Hawkins says yard work and challenges of competition are what keep her going.

Hawkins already holds the world record for her age group in the 100-metre dash, and set a Senior Games record for the women’s 100-plus age division in the 50-metre event with 21.02 seconds.

A record 13,712 athletes are participating in this year’s Senior Games, which conclude June 25th.
