The hospital for Sick Children has received a $100 million donation, the largest single donation in the hospital’s history.
The windfall is in support of the SickKids Vs Limits campaign, a five year, one point three billion dollar fundraising project.
An element of that campaign involves re-imagining the SickKids campus, including the construction of a new patient care centre on University Avenue.
The benefactor is Peter Gilgan, the founder of Mattamy Homes, who previously donated $40 million to the hospital in 2012 to support construction of the Peter Gilgan centre for research and learning.
Sick Kids Foundation CEO Ted Garrard has expressed gratitude for the donation, saying that ”with this gift, we are more sure than ever that a new SickKids will rise”.
With Gilgan’s contribution, the SickKids VS Limits campaign has reached $914 million or about 70% of its goal, with three years left in a five-year campaign.
