Another major arts institution has announced it won’t be taking gifts or donations from the family that owns the company that makes OxyContin.

New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced a policy change concerning Sackler family members who have been sued over accusations revolving around their role in the opioid crisis in both the US and Canada.

The Sackler Family has a longstanding philanthropic history with the Met and other cultural institutions and while they say the allegations are “false and unfair,” they understand accepting gifts “would put the Met in a difficult position.”

The Met joins the Guggenheim, and the Tate and National Portrait Gallery in England, in refusing Sackler Family donations.
