Toronto can-lit legend Margaret Atwood is bringing her her sequel to “The Handmaid’s Tale” to this year’s Winnipeg Writers Festival.
The 79-year old is to read from “The Testaments” at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre in late September as part of the “Thin Air Festival.”
“The Testaments” is slated for release in September. It picks up 15 years after the cliffhanger ending of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
The Handmaid’s Tale takes place in a futuristic, desolate and dystopian incarnation of a United States under totalitarian, theocratic rule, were a dwindling number of fertile women are forced to procreate in an effort to save humankind.
The TV version of the novel has won a number of Emmy and Golden Globe Awards.
