The mayor of Bracebridge provided an update this morning on the flooding situation in the town. They’ve been under a state of emergency since Tuesday.

Graydon Smith knows many seasonal property owners are worried about what kind of condition their cottages may be in. But he has one message for those who may want to come up and check things out: don’t.

“The message to you is please wait. You must wait,” said Smith. “Simply put, we don’t want you putting yourself in danger. Closed roads are illegal to cross. We do not know or cannot guarantee the condition of the road.”

The images of the high waters rushing through the middle of Bracebridge are certainly impressive to watch. Smith also advised people who may want to come by for a look for themselves or maybe a picture to also stay away.

The 2013 floods in the area were, at the time, considered to be a once in a century event. This year’s flooding could be worse than that.
