In the ongoing battle between Queen’s Park and Ottawa over the federal carbon tax, the Ford government has launched an ad campaign.
The 30-second radio spot does not address the federal tax rebate that is designed to offset higher fuel costs.
TV and digital ads are expected to follow next month.
Treasury Board President Peter Bethlenfalvy is not saying how much the ads costs.
During the provincial election campaign the Conservatives promised to spend $30-million over four years on measures to fight Ottawa on the federal carbon pricing law.
In fact, the province is constitutionally challenge it before a panel of judges of Ontario’s top court this week.
NDP MPP Taras Natyshak, who’s introduced a private member’s bill that, if passed, would ban using public money for partisan advertising, calls the ads ”a blatant misuse of public dollars.”
He accused the premier of using taxpayer dollars to campaign for federal Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer in the October election as well as to promote his own ambitions.
