In what is probably a literary first, women poets have swept the short list of Canadians in line to win this year’s $65,000 dollar Griffin Poetry Prize.
Past winner Dionne Brand is nominated for “The Blue Clerk,” Eve Joseph is in the running for the prose poems in “Quarrels” and Sarah Tolmie gets a nod for “The Art of Dying.”
In all, the “Griffin Trust For Excellence In Poetry” has a total of seven shortlisted books on the International and Canadian list.
In addition to the grand prize, each finalist receives $10,000.
The winners will be announced in Toronto June 5th.
