Figuring it’s old enough to live alone, the city of Mississauga wants to move out of the region it’s called home since 1974.

Residents get a chance at a town hall meeting tonight to weigh in on Mississauga city council’s intention to separate.

”Miss-Exit, Peel Off, M-Exit, or Prexit, whatever you choose to call it, it’s time for Mississauga to leave the Region of Peel and become an independent city,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie in a news release.

”Together, we will become one unified city, with one unified, powerful voice.  The world will know Mississauga.”

The meeting takes place this evening between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. in the Council Chamber.

The city of nearly 800,000 is currently part of Peel along with Brampton and Caledon.

Last month, Crombie’s bid for separation was approved by city council.

The province is now reviewing the mayor’s motion and has final say on whether it will happen.

Mississauga is Ontario’s third-largest city and sixth-biggest in Canada.
