Montreal-born William Shatner is 88 years old today.

The actor, producer, director, author and singer gained fame in the 1960s playing Captain James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise, in the Star Trek franchise.

Shatner has also written a series of books chronicling his experiences playing Kirk and being a part of Star Trek and a series of science fiction novels called “TekWars” that were adapted for television.

Shatner is an Emmy and Golden Globe award winner.  In 2011 he was named winner of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award,  He was installed as an officer of the Order of Canada in 2017.
