One third of the 18 Canadians who died in Sunday’s plane crash in Ethiopia came from one family in the GTA – two young sisters, their parents and grandparents.
The Vaidya family lost 37-year-old Kosha, her 45-year-old husband Preit Dixit, their daughters; 13-year-old Anushka, 14-year-old Ashka and their grandparents, 73-year-old Pannagesh Vaidya and 67-year-old Hansini Vaida.

Manant Vaidya says they were on a trip to Kenya for March break as his sister wanted to show his nieces where she grew up.
”She wanted to show her daughters where she was born – where she was delivered in the hospital and the safari was the place they were going to go enjoy the animals,” added Vaidya.
”They told my parents that if they would like to come as well but unfortunately my parents agreed as well and everybody in my family … they got lost.”
Vaidya’s wife says his parents lived with them and that their home feels empty.
Anushka Dixit attended Centennial Sr. Public School while Ashka went to Chinguacousy Secondary School.
