Justin Trudeau spoke to Jody Wilson-Raybould after SNC-Lavalin was denied a ”deferred prosecution agreement”.
The prime minister has said he spoke with the then attorney-general and justice minister about the case last September 17.
But court documents show the top federal prosecutor told the Quebec engineering and construction giant 13 days earlier, on September 4, about its decision not to help it avoid criminal prosecution.
Until now, it had appeared that Trudeau spoke with Wilson-Raybould before that decision was made.
Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer says this latest timeline of events is the ”strongest evidence so far that the Prime Minister’s Office inappropriately and potentially illegally tried to influence this criminal prosecution.”
Scheer adds if the decision had already been made, ”it’s difficult not to interpret the Prime Minister’s reminder to Ms. Wilson-Raybould as direct pressure to intervene.”
