While ”Roma” and ”The Favourite” lead all films with 10 Oscar nominations each for the 91st Academy Awards.
Canadians dominated the Best Animated Short category.
Three of the five films are the works of homegrown talent, including the Pixar production ”Bao” by Toronto-raised Domee Shi.
Also nominated were ”Weekends” by Canadian-born director Trevor Jimenez and Vancouver’s husband-and-wife filmmaking duo of David Fine and Alison Snowden for ”Animal Behaviour”.
The Live Action Short Film category has two finalists from Montreal – Jeremy Comte for ”Fauve”,  Marianne Farley for ”Marguerite.”
Other Canadian nominees include Paul Massey, sound mixer for ”Bohemian Rhapsody” and Gordon Sim, set decorator for ”Mary Poppins Returns.”
Domee Shi is the first female director of a Pixar short film and a graduate of Sheridan College’s Animation Program, as are Jimenez and Michael Fukushima, producer of ”Animal Behaviour”.
In addition, Sheridan animation alumni worked on four of the five projects nominated for Best Animated Feature, including Incredibles 2, Isle of Dogs, Ralph Breaks the Internet and Spider-Man:  Into the Spider-Verse.
The recognition comes as Sheridan celebrates the 50th anniversary of its Animation Program.
