The result could lead to a disorderly exit from the European Union or even to a reversal of the 2016 decision to leave the bloc.
Many of May’s fellow Conservatives joined the opposition in rejecting the deal.
Opposition Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn immediately called a vote of no-confidence in the government, to be held within 24 hours.
As the clock ticks toward the Brexit date of March 29, the United Kingdom still must decide on how or even whether to leave the European union that it joined in 1973.
