The Canadian Civil Liberties Association and the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario go to court today to try and block the Ford P.C. government’s repeal of the previous Liberal government’s sex ed curriculum.  The groups claim the cancellation is unconstitutional because it puts students at risk.

The 2015 updates enacted by the Wynne Government included lessons on online bullying and sexting.  Opponents, especially social conservatives, objected to the parts of the curriculum addressing same-sex relationships and gender identity, claiming the Liberal Government didn’t consult enough with parents.

Lawyers for the Ford government argued in a document filed ahead of today’s court hearing that the Constitution doesn’t entrench any particular curriculum and therefore this is not a matter of constitutional law.
