The Ontario government is defending the cap of 25 cannabis retail licences being offered – in a lottery process this week.
The province began accepting expressions of interest today from those wanting to be part of a draw on Friday – to determine who is allowed to apply for the first 25 licences for retail stores in Ontario.
Finance Minister Vic Fedeli says the province is limiting licences for now – because of a supply problem that he says the federal government has failed to address.
But Fedeli says the problem is temporary – and more cannabis retail stores will open across the province once Ottawa can guarantee a better supply.
