An on-duty Uber driver was among 22 motorists charged with impaired driving in York Region over the holidays.
A 55-year-old Whitchurch-Stouffville man was arrested after pulling into a parking lot in one of the town’s plazas to pick up a passenger.
Police were notified by a concerned citizen.
The Uber driver was the only one charged in York on New Year’s Eve, typically a night when there’s a high number of impaired drivers on the road.
The arrest comes a month police in the region announced the service would publicly name those charged with impaired driving in hopes of making it more socially unacceptable.
