On this, the first real business day of the new year for most Canadians, yet by lunch time, the country’s top chief executive officers will have made what the average worker makes – in all of 2019.

So says the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives which looked at the more than 1,200 executives at 249 publicly traded companies and found women earn about 68-cents for every dollar made by men.

The centre’s senior economist, David Macdonald, says women face a ”double-pane glass ceiling,” first to just get to the executive suite and once there, making as much as their male colleagues.

”I think it’s reflective of what’s happening throughout corporate Canada and the difficulties that women face in getting a fair shake even if they do have the qualifications”.       

The same report says top CEO’s earned an average of $10-million in 2017 or almost 200% more than the average Canadian.
